What is Rebels with a Cause?

Rebels with
a Cause

Our founder, Kiki/Anjuli, a Pakistani native, has been a driving force.. or shall we say a “riding” force and supporter of the moto community for over 11 years. A road warrior and world traveler whose long time dream has been to promote and share a positive and meaningful experience of her homeland, all whilst coupling together what she loves most…motorcycle adventures and helping those in need.

About the Tour

Explore the world's highest peaks on motorcycles

Embark on a transformative trip filled with purpose and thrilling adventure. We commence in the lush green bustling capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, then fly over lofty mountains, rocks, fawn sand and snow to Skardu- The gateway to the best treks and mountaineering in the world. Where we will ride segments of the Karakorams backbone containing the densest mass of glaciers, ride to serene lakes, past waterfalls and ancient as well as organic villages. Sprinkling our aid to multiple valleys along the way. This region of Gilgit-Baltistan is the rooftop of the world, with verdant forests, rolling hills, and glistening rivers. It is a place of unspoiled beauty with the friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

The Motorcycles

The tried & trusted Honda CB150F

We currently use the worry free Honda CB 150F. It has proven for years to be the most reliable in the country, especially up north with its aircooled engine. Our personal certified mechanic will be here 24/7 to keep our bikes dialed in and on track no matter what obstacles we encounter. If you have someone tagging along as your +1 or pillion, we can also arrange a spot for them in our support vehicle.

Humanitarian Impact

A mission filled with adventure

The Itinerary

This tour is more than a window into the rich culture, history, heritage and traditions of Pakistan and its people– it’s a chance to immerse yourselves beyond being a “tourist”. It’s an exchange. The window works both ways, and riders see full circle the weight they have in creating a meaningful impact. The rippling effects are very real. Alone, we can only do so much, but with the force of community, the rewards are life-altering, and you’ll see it first hand.

Day 0 - Islamabad
May 31

After your long haul flight you will be picked up from ISB INTL airport and taken to your hotel/guesthouse where you can adjust to the jet-lag and recoup after traveling halfway across the world. Optional dinner may be on the schedule between crew and riders, depending on levels of fatigue etc.

Day 1 - Islamabad
June 1

As us Rebels will be adjusting to our new surroundings in the beautiful capital city of Pakistan, our first hop after breakfast will be to visit Faisal Masjid, the first modern architectural construction of a mosque built in the early 80s. Let’s not linger too long, as we want to make it to AKHO Sunbeam School well before the last bell of the day. We’ll meet and greet the children and teachers and present our donations to the community before we head to Rawalpindi to tour the infamous Truck Art workshop, where all those funky disco 3M trucks are painted and pimped up!

Day 2 - Skardu
June 2

The day kicks off with an early start as you head for the airport for an exhilarating journey from Islamabad to Skardu via a quick and scenic flight, which will leave you mind blown. We'll check into our hotel and get accustomed to our bikes, as we ride along the Indus River, to Basho valley’s famous Chocolate rocks. We will let the day guide us into night, a delicious traditional dinner at the hotel back in Skardu city.

Day 3 - Skardu
June 3

On our second day in Skardu we'll take the motorcycles out to explore a diverse range of landscapes, from the ancient Buddha Rock, a carving which has stood tall since the time of the Great Empire, when Bhuddists migrated from Ghandara, via this part of the world. Through tranquil lakes and the vastness of the cold-desert, that will leave you with unforgettable memories in this breathtaking region. We will eventually make our way to Shigar for the night.

Day 4 - Skardu
June 4

This will be another day in paradise, exploring Shigar, riding to the soothing natural hot springs, marveling at the ancient architecture of Forts and Mosques, and immersing yourself in the cultural tapestry of this fascinating region with its fruit orchards and rich fields of barley and wheat. We shall ride up to Upper Kachura Lake, where we Rebels can rest for the night.

Day 5 - Aliabad
June 5

We'll bid farewell to Skardu as the journey continues towards Aliabad via Gilgit, offering a scenic ride through thrilling roads and epic landmarks along the way. En route, a delightful stop for lunch awaits us at Kashghar Khorak Mahal, providing a chance to savor local flavors and replenish our energy till Aliabad. It’s going to be our longest day yet, but it’ll be worth it as our dinner and accommodations at 2Magpie will be dreamy and super cosy.

Day 6 - Aliabad
June 6

We'll take a well-deserved break from the bikes and immerse ourselves in the cultural richness of Karimabad. We'll explore the rich history of Altit fort, visit the women and kids in “Altit Village”, wander through the lively tapestry of Karimabad bazaar and finish the day off at Duiker to witness the breathtaking sunset, where the panoramic views will leave you speechless.

Day 7 - Gulmit
June 7

An early breakfast and Check out from 2Magpie, to make our way to the worlds Highest frontier, the Pak-China border at a record altitude of almost 16,000Ft. We will make a quick pit-stop on the way at Silk Route Lodge, which will be our home for the next 3 days. On our way down from ‘Khunjerab Pass’ we will eat a late lunch at the infamous Yak-Grill before the sunset and bonfire/music night back at the Lodge.

Day 8 - Gulmit
June 8

On this day you’ll have the option of cruising on the bikes or riding in one of the support vehicles. We begin with a visit to the captivating Attabad Lake and take a boat-ride on stunning turquoise waters.  Afterwards we’ll make our way over to the Ghulkin Music School, a special place we support through our charitable works. Here, the children graciously welcome us with performances, showcasing their remarkable musical talents and sharing the joy of our annual visits.

Day 9 - Gulmit
June 9

Option 1 leads us to Misgar, a captivating day trip about 1 hour and 30 minutes away. Here, we have the opportunity to arrange an outdoor self-cooking lunch, adding a unique touch to our culinary experience. The journey will take us to the fort, offering glimpses of history, along with a visit to the old post office, unraveling tales of the region's past. Alternatively, option 2 takes us to Hopper, also a 1 hour and 30-minute journey, involving some off-roading. Upon arrival, we'll witness one of the fastest moving glaciers in the world, an awe-inspiring natural spectacle that promises to leave a lasting impression. Both options offer distinct experiences, allowing us to choose between historical exploration at Misgar or witnessing the powerful forces of nature at Hopper. As the day winds down, we reconvene for a delightful dinner at Silk Route Lodge, reflecting on the day's adventures and enjoying a relaxing evening at this soulful retreat.

Day 10 - Gilgit
June 10

A short ride and some off-roading will lead us to Borith Lake, a hidden gem cradled between mountain peaks. We’ll do some thrill seeking suspension bridge action and ziplining before we ride out to Gilgit for the night.

The day commences with an early morning departure from Gilgit for a swift flight to Islamabad. Upon arrival, you'll have the morning to settle in or explore the capital city, depending on the flight schedule. We've got the answers for your questions

Do I need a motorcycle license to ride on the tour?

A valid operator’s license from your home country specifically with the motorcycle endorsement is necessary and will be confirmed at the starting point of your tour. This is not only for legal and insurance reasons but also for the safety of yourself and the people on the road with you.

What kind of physical condition do I need to be in?

We obviously hope you are in excellent physical and mental condition anytime you plan on riding a motorcycle. The riding level is “moderate,” 1-3 years minimum riding experience is recommended and some off road experience will come in handy. Our approval of your condition does not take the place of a trusted doctor’s evaluation. Also, we recommend you to arrive two days earlier than a tour date to avoid Jet Lag messing with you.

Why am I being redirected to book the tour on another website?

A huge part of RWAC is to promote locals whose mission it is to highlight the gems of their nation. So I called upon my trusted friends, Sobia Maq and Adnan Afaq, at Route 16. By booking with them we are helping the people of Pakistan thrive. They take care of everything for us, how sweet of them!

Can I pay in installments?

A $650 deposit is required to secure your spot on the tour. During checkout you'll have the option to pay all at once or make installments leading up to the tour date. Please contact our tour partner, Route 16, for specific details.

What kind of weather will we encounter and gear will I need to ride?

The simple rule is: Anything is possible, so prepare accordingly. Riding season in Pakistan starts in May and ends around mid-October. It’s generally great weather to be in the Himalayas but the winds can suddenly change and short storms can hit us out of nowhere. So bring your rain gear, a full-face helmet, bring a summer mesh jacket for hot days, plus a warm layer or two. There’s a wide range of weather possibilities and temps so BE READY FOR WHATEVER!

How long are typical riding days?

Riding days can vary from 150-350km (95-220mi) per day, depending on the roads and routes. In the twisty Himalayas or the Karakoram range a 300 km day can easily take up to 7 hours at times due to ferry crossings, side excursions, or depending on other activities, so just keep in mind that we design the itinerary that make full use of your vacation time, making it «mission impossible» to get bored at any given moment.

What if I don’t speak the language?

Lucky for you lucky for us, Pakistan was colonized by the British, so it’s the official language and everyone speaks and understands it, so you needn’t worry!

What is the recommended arrival date?

We recommend you to arrive two days before the tour begins. We want you to wear off your jet lag, and be fresh for the adventurous journey ahead.

How long in advance do I need to apply for the visa?

The Visa process sometimes takes up to 2 months for Pakistan so we suggest getting your visa as soon as possible.

How do I get a visa?

Please visit https://visa.nadra.gov.pk for complete information.

Where can I get travel insurance?

If you are looking for a travel insurance to go along with your trip to Pakistan, we would recommend WorldNomads.com, which may be the adequate type of insurance that fits our kind of adventure.

How many people are on the tour?

8 - 14 Riders will be on the tour

Will there be cell phone reception and wifi?

Good freakin’ question. In urban and more developed cities like Islamabad yes, but not so much in the rural villages and mountainous regions. Please do inform your loved ones in advance so they don’t worry if they don’t hear back from you until we’ve reached a more developed zone.
